God’s Way of Salvation

In thinking about the Spirit’s work in peoples’ hearts when confronting them about the way of salvation, Dutch-reformed pastor Gerard Wijsse wrote,

Already from the very outset, the natural man rebels against the way which is pleasing to God when he asks the question which has arisen in all of us at one time or another: “Could this not have been accomplished differently?” Here the word of Augustine, who wrote about redemptive history, comes to mind…”If God were to have thought out another way, it would have been equally displeasing to your foolishness.” And thus we are at once in need of the internal ministry of Christ as prophet in order to overcome this skeptical opposition within us.

What this brings to my mind and heart is not just that we need God to show us the way of salvation but to humble and incline our minds and hearts to admit our unwillingness to believe/follow what He reveals! Every objection and allegation is to be silenced and we become entirely dependent on God for everything.
