It is good to consider how to summarize the truth of Christianity to those unfamiliar with it. Most would focus on the person of Jesus (often as “example”) and others would highlight Christianity as a “code of conduct” with emphasis on living obediently. Herman Bavinck in his Reformed Dogmatics summarizes the essence of Christianity,
And the essence of the Christian religion consists in the reality that the creation of the Father, ruined by sin, is restored in the death of the Son of God and re-created by the grace of the Holy Spirit into a kingdom of God. (Vol. 1, Pg. 112)
Whatever the merits of the summaries stated above, we should agree that Christianity begins with God, with the Triune God – Who He is and what He has done (Romans 11:36). Shortly after the summary Bavinck provides, he writes
It describes for us God, always God, from beginning to end – God in his being, God in his creation, God against sin, God in Christ, God breaking down all resistance through the Holy Spirit and guiding the whole of creation back to the objective he decreed for it: the glory o his name.” (Vol. 1, Pg. 112)
In our church and in our lives I pray that we exude the praise of God. That He is our focus, our delight, our strength, our All in All!
